The Season Opener for the
Carolina's went off with Beautiful weather on Sunday April 1st at
Piedmont Dragway near Greensboro, NC
There was a good selection of used
& new swap meet vendors this time, we certainly hope you found what you
needed. The show & non show area, were full with some nice VWs from NC
as well as the surrounding states.
Best of Show went to Chris Bailey's pristine East Coast Sand Rail, Best
Interior and Paint to Phillip Sheek's 60 Euro Beetle, David Clodfelter's
69 Beetle won the Best Engine award and the Promoter's Choice went to
the 59 Beetle of Hugo Yanez. Congratulations to all these guys, plus all
the show category winners.
The Racing action was HOT this go
around! The VW section was hopping with some 50 racers including the
Bracket, Pro Outlaw and Ultimate Street Classes. Plus we had some extra
non VW ones out there as well. The track invited some Pro Mods out for
some testing since their test sessions got rained out the week before
and they had a HUGE race coming up! Hope you guysenjoyed
watching those guys during our VWs down time. I would like to say that
the track always put the VWs first when it was time for them to come
back to the line! We had a special guest this time with Ken Fisher of
Fisher Buggies in Tampa, Florida. Ken made another record breaking pass
this year, 4.623 in 1/8mile. Congratulations! We also had a match race
with him and a
V-8 powered Beetle. Ken won that round!
